I haven’t blogged in nearly two weeks because I’ve been busy writing a book about saving money for Nano: http://nanowrimo.org/dashboard.
I worked at an affordable housing conference for two days this week. I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely couple, Alexis and Christian, from Tiny House Expedition: http://www.tinyhouseexpedition.com/. I also attended a roundtable discussion they hosted Thursday evening at HQ in Raleigh. Afterward, I got to tour their tiny house on wheels. They are traveling across the country, creating a documentary and sharing the word about tiny houses. Consider donating to their adventure: http://www.tinyhouseexpedition.com/donate/.
At the conference I didn’t have much of an opportunity to attend sessions or talk with many people. However, at a luncheon I talked with someone who is very much into thriftiness. He told me that he works at Hampton Inn every Saturday, and because of this shift he gets heavily discounted hotel nights whenever he stays at Hampton Inn.
I also met these people: http://www.innovativedehumidifiers.com/. Apparently you can save a bunch of money on air conditioning if you install one of these things, as well as removing damaging wetness from the air of your home. We’re looking into it.
Finally, I learned about this software: https://www.youneedabudget.com/. It costs $60 just once to use for life, but the initial download and 30-day trial are free. Me, I’m more of a “running tally” sort of girl. I know, for instance, that I have $69 left to spend in October. Even with groceries, gas and Halloween tonight, I think I’ll come in under my budget.
I’ve spent $200 in the past 20 days. That includes grocery shopping, gas, and everything else. Last week I went from Monday to Thursday without spending any money! On Friday I gave in and bought 2 kombuchas and then a beer. In October of 2015 I will likely be the winner of the monthly competition!
