Back in my early 20’s, I would eat Michelina’s frozen entrees at lunch.
Every afternoon, after lunch, my mood would “turn” and I would get a headache and find it difficult to concentrate. It took me awhile to correlate the headaches with the cheap food I ate at lunch.
I don’t have many rules for foods I showcase in Dollar Tree Dining, but there are 2 rules that I stick by: 1. No high fructose corn syrup, and 2. The food item has to look reasonably tasty. I usually avoid foods with horrific ingredients lists, but sometimes I fail. Michelina’s usually has a long list of ingredients, and it looks sort of gross, but at $1 a box, I decided to try it again.
I started with the Cheeseburger Mac. The picture on the box doesn’t look terrible.
The ingredients list is frightening. I apologize that it’s blurry, but it’s hard to fit that many ingredients onto one page. I am especially curious about “blue cheese flavor,” and I wonder what they mean by “mustard flour.”
The verdict? Very salty, and the chemical and margarine aftertaste was overpowering. I was unable to finish this. I ate the “meat cubes” and about 15 noodles and discarded the rest.
The next morning, along with my morning coffee, I cooked up the next box.
The ingredients list was somewhat shorter than on the Cheeseburger Mac.
The verdict? Not terrible! I ate the meat cubes first, followed by the vegetable pieces. I threw out most of the rice.
I have now eaten Michelina’s frozen entrees from Dollar Tree. This will never happen again.
