Many excellent hiking trails in North Carolina are ignored on the way to Asheville or the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Last weekend, we hiked at Stone Mountain in Roaring Gap, NC. Hiking in Stone Mountain is like walking on the moon, or Mars.
After Stone Mountain, we went to Pilot Mountain near Mt Airy, NC. You can hike right up to the “knob” in this picture. But don’t climb on it — that’s a misdemeanor!
After hiking, we stopped in Mt. Airy, aka Mayberry, for some tacky tourism. I had a brown sugar cinnamon milkshake!
