Contentment in the Modern Age of Cholera

In some ways, I’m absolutely enjoying this departure from “ordinary life.” Life was too easy for far too long and I was complacent. It’s more challenging to be grateful for the little things when living is easy.

Here are some things I’m currently feeling grateful for:

  • Global warming might slow down significantly if fewer people are driving to work.
  • I have free time to read classical literature (admittedly, it makes me fall asleep, but I do have more opportunities to try.)
  • I currently have a good job and I can work from home – less driving.
  • The weather is nice, and I’m allowed to run outside (for now).
  • I can spend time with my S.O.
  • Everything is slower, so the evenings feel like a vacation.
  • I have an excuse to drink one beer every evening. (only one – I’m rationing.)
  • If I ignore the news completely and delete my emails without reading them, then everything seems “not bad.”
  • Eventually, the market should go up again.
  • I have good friends, good family, and a good life.
  • I have a great cat.
  • I’m creative, and even more so with this significant uptick in spare time.
  • I have a solid excuse to be an introvert and not talk to anyone if I want. JOMO!
  • And finally, since we’re entirely home-bound, we’re connecting with our neighbors more! (Hopefully they aren’t germy.)
