Dollar Tree Dining #7

Most of my Dollar Tree Dining posts so far have been about snacks; not necessarily full meals. They have not necessarily been nutritionally balanced. I am changing my focus now, and making satisfying meals with ingredients purchased at Dollar Tree. Yesterday, I spent $3 at Dollar Tree and made a healthy, well-balanced dinner for two people. I added a few extra ingredients from my fridge to add more flavor, but it would have been good on its own. You can always be creative and improvise, based on what’s in your fridge.

I started with this box of dirty rice as a staple.

Next, I added chicken sausage – this entire package of sausage has about 320 calories and 26 grams of protein!

These mixed veggies came from Dollar Tree as well, and they added vitamins and fiber, turning this into a balanced meal.

I added a few extra ingredients. I added frozen grilled chicken to the rice, and I added crunchy peanut butter, soy sauce, minced garlic and hot sauce to the veggies to give them more flavor.

Not bad for a $3 dinner for two! If you are paying $20 for two meals from one of those delivery “cook at home” delivery meal services, this is a much cheaper option!

  1. Impressive! I haven’t seen chicken sausages in my local Dollar Tree yet – but I’ll keep an eye out!
