Nail Polish, or Bagels!

Don’t make your brain live on sugar! Try… nail polish remover!

We know how eat healthy: eat lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat meats. Avoid processed foods most of the time. Consider being a vegetarian for at least part of the week. Avoid large amounts of desserts and sodas. Eat what the American Cancer Society recommends!

But why be a moderate, when you can go extreme!  Practically everyone I know has been on some sort of extreme diet at some point. Why follow a registered dietitian, when you can follow a quack! There’s so many quacks to follow!

Back in the 1990’s, it was easy: just eat low-fat. Some people took it to the extreme and would eat as little as 0-5% fat, but most people just tried to stay under 30% of their daily calories from fat.

Then, in the late 1990’s/early 2000’s, the Atkin’s diet became extremely popular. Soon, massive amounts of red meat were considered “healthy.” Who cares if it destroys your kidneys and liver and heart?! It makes you lose weight!

High-protein dieting has had many iterations over the years, with its current one being keto-dieting. In ketosis, you starve your brain until it lives on nail polish remover. This is VERY dangerous. If you have 100’s of pounds to lose, then fine, take that risk. But people who have less than like 50 pounds to lose would be better off exercising more and eating a more balanced diet. I cannot stress enough the American Cancer Society recommendations!

When I’ve approached the “higher” end of my weight range, I’ve counted calories and increased my lean protein consumption to 100-150 grams a day. But I’ve never, never, forced my brain to survive on nail polish remover!

Till next time,

Sh’Bieue
