Chicken Salad Dining #1 – Zaxby’s

For my next challenge, I plan to go to every fast food restaurant near me that still has a salad on the menu. I will order a chicken salad from each restaurant.

The fast food salad used to be a fixture in fast-food restaurants. However, many chains, including McDonald’s, have recently pulled salads from their menus. Even Burger King has pulled the salad from the menu at most locations. Taco Bell has removed the salad in favor of bowls.

Now, my chicken salad options are limited. However, I was staying within walking distance from Zaxby’s the other day, so I dropped in.

The Zaxby’s had a freestyle drink machine, which was awesome! The Zaxby’s Cobb salad and a drink cost me $12.02.

The Zaxby’s salad comes with lettuce, Roma tomatoes, cucumbers, bacon, hard-boiled egg, fried onions, and cheese, and it even has a side of Texas Toast. I’m realizing now that they forgot to add the hard-boiled egg.

They have their own line of dressings which aren’t the best, but they aren’t terrible!

Everything on the salad tasted fresh. I would have preferred more vegetables and less cheese, but it still wasn’t bad!

Zaxby’s has a few other salads on the menu – the fried chicken, the grilled chicken, the house salad, and the garden salad, and they also have Zaxby’s Zensible Zalads, which are healthier versions of the same salads with less “stuff” on them – hold the fried eggs and the Texas toast but pay the same price (I think). Their prices don’t appear to be consistent from market to market.

I enjoyed the salad – it’s not the best, but it’s not the worst. It’s a decent option when you’re on the road and want a reasonably priced, healthy option for lunch or dinner.
