Clique-it or…

I am looking for a new car. I am averse to buying a Honda, or a Toyota. It took me awhile to realize why, but I discovered it’s because, in the back of my mind, car makes are similar to the “cliques” from high school!

Honda and Toyota are the ever present, popular, a-crowd kids. Everyone likes them, and they have big voices. They are priced a little higher for the label. They are “cool,” but the second tier kids don’t want to drive them. To be an “individual,” you might need to look for a different make.

Hyundai and Kia are the b-crowd kids. They are “copycat” models to the popular cars. They are less expensive, and they don’t give you instant popularity if you ride around in one. But you might find one that gives you everything you need.

Jaguar is the badass rich kid. It is likely that you’ll find one you like, but you won’t afford it.

Nissan: it’s just a car. It’s boring and dependable. Nissan’s parents were cool: the 280z was top of the line! But Nissan babies are boring. They’ll get you from A to B, but they won’t become homecoming king.

VW is your quirky friend. You like it, but you’re not weird enough to drive around in one.

Chrysler is the super-Christian kid in your class. He seems nice enough, but for some reason you never hang around with him.

Lexus is what Karen drives.

BMW is flashy, cool, and has great hair. Everyone wants to date (I mean drive) a BMW. Unfortunately, the upkeep is ridiculously expensive — who has time for all that hair gel?!

Ford is a little bit country, a little bit rock-and-roll. It’s the kid hanging out in the pickup truck, drinking and talking about Toby Keith and chickens.

Acura is so fancy, you just want to smack it!

Suzuki: 20 years after high school graduation, you won’t remember Suzuki. Oh yeah, Suzuki cars were discontinued in the U.S. That’s sad, as they are kind of cool.

Tesla is the smug, smart jerk in the front row. Quit showing off, Elon!

Mitsubishi is the track star that never got into the a-crowd, but does well in college and has a nice life.

What do you think!?

Some Toyotas and Hondas are pretty low end cars

    1. Hello Lemperticus. Some popular kids are pretty low end, too.

  2. What about Subaru’s? They’re excellent, driveable cars for short little ladies
